What is Li-Fi?

Devices that use blinking lights to transmit data could provide the wireless Internet of the future. U.S. Navy-funded researchers are developing a form of visible light-based communication that transmits data using fast-blinking LEDs rather than Wi-Fi's familiar radio waves. A paper published earlier this year in Nature Nanotechnology could help Li-Fi take a step forward.Its authors have fabricated an artificial material with a quirky response to light that may eventually speed up light-based data transmission. Li-Fi works a like Morse code, with LED blinks corresponding to the zeros and ones of computer language.An LED light transmits flashes of light to a light detector lodged in a computing device, which translates the signal into digital data. The blinks are so rapid that the human eye cannot detect them. The faster the LED blinks, the faster it's possible to transmit data.

Spreadsheets can also be useful in organizing formulas to calculate different situations. These situations can vary from measuring rainfall, to organizing grades and assignments.

I learned that copy writing protects your work from being mooched off of others. I didn't believe it was a severe punishment, but the consequences can be severe. It is important to know to be careful with how you use other people's work to not cause any problems.

Neuroscientist's iPad App can Train Your Brain to See Farther

Aaron Seitz, a neuroscientist from the University of California, created an app that when used repeatedly, would condition users to see farther.

It's called Ultimeyes and was tested on a team of baseball players in which it increased their eyesight by 31% 

It doesn't improve your physical eyes or eye muscles, it strictly works on the brain by rewiring it to perform certain advanced functions.

It works by presenting several faded objects on the screen and forcing the user to identify different patterns.

Users do this constantly as each round of patterns becomes harder than the last.

       In the beginning of Mr. Porfido's Web 2.0 class, I expected to learn many new things. Such as learning to edit videos and other types of content, learn different shortcuts to help me use my computer faster and more efficiently, and use different search engines. So far, I have learned about how technology has a great impact on the world. It has changed the way we communicate with others, how we spend our free time, and it has changed our expectations on how fast we expect everything to be.           I enjoy many things about Web 2.0 one thing being that I am constantly using the computer. I enjoy using technology and being able to be surrounded by it for one period makes my school day a lot more fun. Other aspects of the class that I enjoy are our commercial projects that we we might be doing at the end of the year and our tech articles that are nice to hear about at the end of the week.
           Mr. Porfido is my Web 2.0 teacher at Wood-Ridge High school. His grading is simple and rather easy to understand. Formal assesments count as 40% percent grading as well as weekly projects. Homework and class participation each count as 10% separately.

Attention all readers! Ever hear about this touching book called Speak? If not I'm here to tell you that it is a fantastic book that many of you can relate to.  Melinda goes through many of the problems that arise from depression and I know some of you do as well.This is exactly why I encourage you to go out and read this book! Just remember that we are all trees continuing to grow. We can't just let one cut off branch keep us from moving on. Instead, we have to continue to thrive for the sun and water that we need and heal that branch once again.

        I have many reasons as to why i chose trees as my symbol and depression as my theme. The reason why i chose a tree as my symbol was because it is referred to a lot in the book Speak. It also resembles how everyone can leave the past behind and move on. Nobody should let anything anything bring them down no matter how bad the situation gets. Everyone should always just remember to grow a new branch and thrive for the Sun and water they need to continue growing.
        For my theme, I focused on depression. Melinda goes through many problems that lead to her depression. At some points she even wonders is she wants to continue on with life even after one incident. Many people in this world suffer from depression whether it be from a past incident or any other situation, which is why this book would be great for them because they know that they aren't the only ones suffering.
