Envision small robotic modules, lifting the lid of a storage box, spilling out, rearranging themselves to be the box's legs and transporting it to where you might be seated. That's exactly what Swiss researchers are aiming to create with Roombots, reconfigurable robotic modules that connect to each other to transform themselves into any type of furniture and change shape when needed (from a chair to a table, for example). Designed to help the disabled or elderly, by morphing to suit their needs, the adaptive robotic furniture modules can even be attached to existing furniture to give greater flexibility and the power to move.

            1. You can use google blogger and use RSS feeds, and you can use Google docs to organize things in folders.

            2. I learned about the kidnapping of the Nigerian girls. I wasn't really aware of the girls being kidnapped and I learned a good amount of info from the websites.

             3. Digg reader is another common bookmarking site.

            4. Most likely, it helps me organize my websites and saves me plenty of time.

Web 2.0 Tool

Forget everything about any other Phys Ed program and sign up for Daily Fit Log. DFL doesn't only store data, but it teaches physical educators different ways to promote health and fitness programs for those around them. I would definitely use this program for my Phys Ed class with Mrs. DiNapoli. Iwould use this program to keep track of my fitness and promote better healthy habits for myself. This would help me be as healthy as i can possibly be. I would also use DFL to learn about new things about Physical Education and further improve my knowledge on being healthy.

10 things to consider for career minded students

The article was very informative and was actually very helpful. It shared with us that your online reputation can determine how you are judged by your future boss or recruiter. They also state to be mindful of what you post as it can be offensive to others. I agree with this being that many people can be disrespectful and annoying on online sites.

RSS Assignment

Why did you select the sites you subscribed to?
    • They seemed to be very informative and provided me with the information I need.
Was it easy to find feeds and to subscribe to them?
    • Yes it was fairly easy to find and subscribe to the feeds.
Which sites were your favorites?
    • My favorite sites were New York Times Basketball, Yahoo Sports, and ESPN.
What else can you use RSS feeds for?
    • You can use RSS feeds to keep up with multiple websites and blogs so that you can be updated as soon as possible.
How likely are you to continue to use RSS feeds in the future?
    • Very likely, mainly because it is so much easier to check the information under one reader rather than having to go on multiple websites and check them separately.

My favorite restaurant is La Havana 59 located on 110 Moonachie Ave in Moonachie NJ . They  Cuban cuisine such as fried plantains, Cuban sandwiches, pork, and steak. Their food is always freshly prepared and delicious. Their waiters are very comfortable to talk to and they always do their best to ensure our visit is great. Visiting La Havana 59 with my family is always fun and we enjoy spending time together there.
My favorite dish from La Havana 59 is their Cuban steak sandwich. It is stuffed with tomatoes, thin cut fries, lettuce, pickles, and a big piece of steak. I order it almost every time I go there and it always satisfies. I also enjoy their signature flan dessert. It is a custard dessert smothered with caramel and topped with vanilla ice cream.
La Havana 59 is my favorite restaurant because it reminds me of the time I visited Cuba. The food and the atmosphere really does bring back memories from when I was at Cuba. If they closed down, I would go to the Rumba Cubana. It is another Cuban restaurant located in North Bergen that also serves quality Cuban food. In all, I highly suggest anyone who enjoys quality Cuban food to visit La Havana 59.

  • Gives authors a quick, easy experience in collaborating to make an informative site on a certain topic
  • Also allows authors to peer edit and review work that needs corrections
3. How can we create one in this class and utilize it?

  • You can create one that shares information on technology such as websites, new gadgets, etc.
  • Can be used to help organize a project that we will be assigned
  • Different members of the group can make sure the project doesn't require any more corrections before presenting
4. What experience do you have using or creating wikis?

  • I've been on celebrity wikis to learn more about them
  • I have used wikis to help me with my school assignments by using information from the site

Wikis are websites that provide information on a certain topic that can be altered by anyone that visits the page. I have been on wikis that are based on famous people such as Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Allen Iverson. Wikis can be used in education by gathering information for an assignment, or to to help teach a subject.

Invisibility Cloak

There would be many heroic things I would do with an invisibility cloak. I would do helpful deeds for free such as shovel, rake, and others pesky chores people have to do all the time. Being invisible wouldn't guilt trip them into thinking that they have to pay me or do something in return. I would also help out in nearby situations such as helping people escape a fire, help with an ongoing crime, or help out with public works.
I would also steal from markets and feed homeless and poor people. Not only that, but I would also steal clothing and other necessities they would need. It would really help those in the community and would feel good to help those in need.

3-D printed canal house in Amsterdam.

If you think 3D printing is only good for making flimsy paperweights, then you're pretty much right. A group of audacious Dutch architects, however, have just begun 3D printing an entire canal house in Amsterdam. Just a few weeks ago, KamerMaker began printing plastic furniture and walls at an empty canal-side lot in northern Amsterdam. Smaller versions of the unusual honeycomb walls have been tested on normal desktop printers, and everyone just needed to be scaled up.

What is Li-Fi?

Devices that use blinking lights to transmit data could provide the wireless Internet of the future. U.S. Navy-funded researchers are developing a form of visible light-based communication that transmits data using fast-blinking LEDs rather than Wi-Fi's familiar radio waves. A paper published earlier this year in Nature Nanotechnology could help Li-Fi take a step forward. Its authors have fabricated an artificial material with a quirky response to light that may eventually speed up light-based data transmission. Li-Fi works a like Morse code, with LED blinks corresponding to the zeros and ones of computer language. An LED light transmits flashes of light to a light detector lodged in a computing device, which translates the signal into digital data. The blinks are so rapid that the human eye cannot detect them. The faster the LED blinks, the faster it's possible to transmit data.

Neuroscientist's iPad App can Train Your Brain to See Farther

Aaron Seitz, a neuroscientist from the University of California, created an app that when used repeatedly, would condition users to see farther.
It's called Ultimeyes and was tested on a team of baseball players in which it increased their eyesight by 31%
It doesn't improve your physical eyes or eye muscles, it strictly works on the brain by rewiring it to perform certain advanced functions.
It works by presenting several faded objects on the screen and forcing the user to identify different patterns.
Users do this constantly as each round of patterns becomes harder than the last.

In the beginning of Mr. Porfido's Web 2.0 class, I expected to learn many new things. Such as learning to edit videos and other types of content, learn different shortcuts to help me use my computer faster and more efficiently, and use different search engines. So far, I have learned about how technology has a great impact on the world. It has changed the way we communicate with others, how we spend our free time, and it has changed our expectations on how fast we expect everything to be.           I enjoy many things about Web 2.0 one thing being that I am constantly using the computer. I enjoy using technology and being able to be surrounded by it for one period makes my school day a lot more fun. Other aspects of the class that I enjoy are our commercial projects that we we might be doing at the end of the year and our tech articles that are nice to hear about at the end of the week.
Mr. Porfido is my Web 2.0 teacher at Wood-Ridge High school. His grading is simple and rather easy to understand. Formal assesments count as 40% percent grading as well as weekly projects. Homework and class participation each count as 10% separately.
